The Fire Prevention Committee, Chaired by Martin Wetmore, holds an essay contest for fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students each year.  Local fire department fire prevention specialists are encouraged to use fire prevention week as a kick-off for students to begin writing their essays for submission.

Essays are due to the association by the third Saturday in January and are subsequently judged by the committee.   Prizes are awarded at a banquet the third Saturday of March each year.
